Egg Tarts~

Wee hee hee~ These egg tarts were a success! The pastry crust was just right, not too crunchy, and they tasted like how egg tarts should taste like... but i guess i will have to work harder to improve the aesthetics the next time around.

My bro commented that the egg tarts are like those you buy from bakery shops, just as long as long as you eat with your eyes close...

Sushi Tei~

Kimchi in sushi tei~ Yes! Sushi tei is having a summer special promotion, which includes korean cuisine! Now, you can enjoy the best of both worlds, japanese and korean cuisines when you dine at sushi tei~
~*Hakusa Kimchi*~
Keke... this was the only korean speciality i had, kimchi! Nothing extraodinary about it, it is just a simple serving of kimchi...

Tampines Popiah~

It's been sometime since i updated the popiah files. i was at tampines for a NDP prayer meeting this evening and was hungry after the meeting, so i went to the coffeeshop opposite the centre (opposite the Tampines CC) and had a popiah.

i totally enjoyed the popiah! i guess it's the way they seasoned the turnip (tasty and spicy) that made it so special. It costs $1.20 per piece which includes tau gay, chinese lettuce, ground peanuts, mock crab meat and seasoned turnip with carrots. i love the chilli they used (really spicy~) and their generous serving. It's yummie-licous~ :p~~~

Singapore Food Industry (Part II)~

During the first NDP combined rehearsal yesterday, most of us were hoping for Pizza hut, but... it was SFI once again...
~* Chicken rice with stewed chicken, fish cake and broccoli*~
The chicken rice was alittle soggy, but well, you can't ask for too much... at least the chicken and broccoli were tasty and edible.

Salads~

There's a place in hougang, opposite the KPT, in the heart of punggol park, a special place for people to dine and chill.
~*Blissful salad*~
The last time i had blissful salad was more than 3 months ago. There has been a slight change in their salad. They added cornflakes...
~*Waraku salad*~
This is a regular serving size of iceberg lettuce, eggs, cherry tomotoes, potato salad, salad dressing...

Ding Tai Fung at wisma atria...
~*Crispy Golden Prawn pancake*~
It was alittle oily, but the freshness of the prawns made up for it.

Simple, not too sweet, refreshing and satisfying.

Laksa~

Ta dah~ Laksa for dinner~ It was really easy to prepare because i used PRIMA LAKSA instant mix, which can be found in most supermarkets.

Simple steps...

Boil noodles in hot water, remove and set aside.
Add Prima premix, paste and laksa leaves into the pot boiling water.
Add in prepared ingredients e.g. fishballs, meatballs, tau pok, tau kwa, fishcakes...etc
Allow laksa gravy to cook for a further 5 mins under low to medium heat.
Add ingredients and gravy to noodles and serve. Enjoy~

Singapore Food Industry~

i'm involved in the NDP mass performance this year. And like past NDPs, KFC, Pizza Hut and Singapore Food Industry are the ones who provide us with our meals. Today's dinner was provided by Singapore Food Industry, it was not exactly gastronomic, just edible.
~*Chicken chop, fried breaded fish, bun, mashed potato and baked beans*~

p.s. i traded my chicken for more baked beans... Of the 3 food sponsors... Pizza Hut is no. 1 so far...

Subway (Harbour Front)~

It has been quite awhile since i last ate at subs. especially like their wide variety and generous serving of fresh vegetables. My favourite subs is the 6-inch, oven baked chicken breast, hearty italian sandwhich :p~~~ i'd usually go for all vegetables, alittle honey mustard dressing (to taste) and a dash of pepper.
Guess the subs~
Got it right?
Don't you think this 6-inch is alittle small? The server packed only a small amount of lettuce despite having a full tub of fresh lettuce at the counter. My favourite subway outlet is the one at marina square. They are really generous with their vegetable servings and their subs are always presented nicely.

Coffee Chiffon Cake~

My first attempt with coffee chiffon cake and though it didn't turn out perfect, i'm still quite satisfied with the end product. The cake was moist, soft and not too sweet or oily.
Noticed the "crater" at the center circumference? i reduced the amount of corn oil and sugar by half, which made it difficult to release the cake from the ring-baking tin. Nevertheless, other then the appearance, it was a successful attempt. Yay~

p.s. i reduced the sugar by half (added only 50 grams), the cake was already sufficiently sweet for me. Can you imagine the amount of sugar they add into the cakes you buy from confectionery shops...

White Dog Cafe (Vivocity)~

My friends and i were trying to decide where to go for tea when we saw their $6++ tea break promotion (3 to 6pm) and so we gave it a try. For their tea break special, there's a choice of Set A, which consisted of a cake and a drink (hot tea/coffee or ice tea/coffee) or Set B; a mixed green salad or soup of the day and a drink (as above).
~*Chocolate Cheese Cake*~
Ms I: "The cake has a thin jelly-like layer on top, chocolate mousse layer below, followed by a layer of cheese and a biscuit base. It is not too sweet due to the blend between the chocolate mousse and cheese."
~*Chocolate Truffle Cake*~
A rich chocolate cake with alternating layers of chocolate cake and chocolate mousse, and topped with a generous amount of cocoa powder.
~*Mixed Green Salad*~
Refreshing and tasty. i'd rather they cut down a little on their dressing.
~*Mixed Green Salad and Ice Tea*~
This is how a set looks like. The ice tea is unsweetened and served separately with a cup of gum syrup.

Thai Express (Marina Square)~

Salty, salty, salty... that's all i have to comment about the food i ordered. It was simply too salty.
~*Tofu & Mushroom Salad*~
The stir-fried tofu cubes an dried mushrooms were swarmed with excessive ground garlic and chilli. The tofu was not very fresh and the dish was extremely salty...

~*Green Papaya Salad*~
There was too much of dried shrimps that made the papaya salad extremely saltyand masked the sourness of the green papaya. The chilli padi slices in the dish were also not spicy enough...

Sliced Fish Soup~

A generous serving of fresh sliced fish, tofu, cabbage, tomato, ikan bilis, fried shallots and seaweed, in a rich and tasty bowl of soup from the People's Park Hawker Centre.

The stall also sells handmade noodles, zha3 jiang4 mian4 and porridge.

Black Sesame Seed Cookies~

Wee hee hee~ finally baked cookies that are crunchy but non-buttery or crumbly. i didn't follow any recipe so everything was purely based on estimation and "innovation" :p This was the first batch that came out of the oven this morning.

Hot Fudge Sundae~

Hmmm... during peak hours quality control can be compromised...
~*Hot Fudge Sundae*~
Erh... the fudge dispenser must have been running dry...

Probably a cone ice cream would have been a better idea...

Korean Cuisine @ Suntech Foodcourt~

Finally~ a dish that's both spicy and contains lots of cabbage to satisfy an avid chilli and vegetable crazy person.
~*Spicy Kimchi Soup Set*~
The soup is rather spicy (4/5 on the spicy scale), definitely not for people who shun chilli. The set comes with rice, kimchi and anchovies (side dish) and a bowl of spicy kimchi soup with a choice of either chicken or beef meat.

i opted for more cabbage in replace of the meat. Finally satisfied my Korean kimchi craving...keke :p

Xin Wang Hongkong Cafe~

~*Century Egg Congee*~
There was nothing unique or special with the taste, just average and sufficiently satisfying for a hungry stomach. They do not serve any dough fritters with the congee (if you're expecting it).
~*Macau Pork Burger*~
Does this look like a burger to you? Or some french toast sandwich? i guess, maybe they just ran out of the bun...

Waraku @ The Central~

My 3rd visit to Waraku, and this time i brought my parents along to celebrate my mum's birthday.
~*Tofu Salad*~
For starters...

~*Tonkatsu Wazen*~
The tonkatsu serving was huge ya, crispy on the outside, tender and succulent on the inside. There's a choice of either udon or soba for the noodles. Besides that, there's also a serving of rice, potato salad, pickled vegetables and sauce to go with the tonkatsu.
~*Hotate Kaminabe Wazen*~
i love the juicy hotate in spicy soup. The set also includes tempura, deep fried eggplant, seaweed, rice, pickled vegetables and salmon sashima.
